Universal Bakehouse opened its doors in October 2019. Their location, previously helmed by a 40-year old laundromat that serviced the bakery’s sister restaurant, Table & Apron, was about to be vacant as the owners were retiring.
Hearing this, managing partners, Marcus and Asya made the spontaneous decision to take on the lot and celebrate the laundromat’s legacy in the way they best knew how – by making good and honest food.
So they transitioned what was once Kedai Dobi Universal, into what we now know as Kedai Roti Universal, or Universal Bakehouse.
The classic bakery began their quest for better bread – a singular mission to create daily fresh bakes that people can come to everyday.
Today, it serves up all manner of comforting food such as sourdough bread, scones, cakes, and pastries.
