We got a call this morning from Ras, founder of OKU Sentral, an organisation that assists and empowers people with disabilities. She asked if we could spare some produce immediately.
Before the RMO, OKU Sentral received food supplies and monetary donations from individuals and organisations. Raw ingredients are then distributed to single mothers and food stall owners to cook up meal boxes which are delivered to over 300 people with disabilities. This helps the 300-something network while providing a bit of income to single mothers and food stall owners.
Since the RMO, donations of all kinds have dwindled. Delivery volunteers are hard to come by, food stalls are closed, and movement is restricted. Ras told us that many people who counted on those meal boxes have not eaten in days, some of them are elderly.
As Ras’ voice quivered with urgency over the phone, our hearts broke. Fresh produce are but a small portion of what this community needs. They need more food supplies, cooking help, and monetary contributions.
So we’re calling out to our friends and community.
If you would like to contribute, please contact Ras at 017-304 4778. Your little means a lot to someone who needs it. #kitajagakita
